A |     Colombo, Oct 18 (UNI) Japan is working to organize a meeting of Sri Lanka’s creditors by the end of this year in hopes of solving that country’s debt crisis.
The Daily Mirror quoted the Yomiuri Shimbun as saying that the meeting, which will discuss such issues as finding ways to reduce debt payments, aims to curb China’s influence by helping Sri Lanka cope with its so-called debt traps.
The debt traps arose after China provided huge loans to the country to fund infrastructure developments and other projects, it said.
Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe asked Tokyo for help during talks with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and others during a visit to Japan in September to attend the funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
The meeting is expected to focus on measures to reduce debt payments and postpone repayment deadlines, among other related steps. Japan continues to urge other creditor countries to play a proactive role in dealing with the issue.
According to the Sri Lankan government, the nation’s external debt at the end of June stood at $46.6 billion, accounting for about 70 per cent of its gross domestic product.
Sri Lanka has more than 20 creditors, with China topping the list at $7.3 billion, followed by Japan at $2.7 billion and India at $1.7 billion.
China — which has come under criticism from the international community for causing Sri Lanka’s economic collapse — will not play a leading role in restructuring Sri Lanka’s debts.
The Japanese government will have to tread carefully in its efforts to reach agreement among creditors in a manner acceptable to Beijing.
UNI MR。    Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who has become one of the most recognisable Indian stars on the global stage, once gave deep insight into her journey and purpose as a producer in an exclusive interview with Filmfare. In a throwback look at that conversation, the actress spoke honestly about the challenges of building a career overseas and the motivations that guide her work today.     When asked how her personal journey shapes her choices as a producer, Priyanka explained that her international success has come with many struggles and learning moments. She said, “I started working abroad and found success through big mountains and valleys. I don’t dwell on it much because I’m someone who just keeps moving forward and that inspires me. It’s not easy to start your life in a completely different country, in a completely different industry. I’m still navigating it.”     Priyanka also shared that she still feels new to her English-language career and continues to learn every day. However, she said that her biggest focus is representing India with pride wherever she goes. “But pushing boundaries and pushing culture is very important to me. Wherever I go, India goes with me," she said.     Talking about her production company, Purple Pebble Pictures, Priyanka explained that giving a platform to meaningful Indian stories is at the heart of her work. She said, “With my production house, I try to make sure stories and filmmakers from our diaspora who want to tell our stories get a platform.”          She added that supporting women and young talent is a key part of her mission. “Whether it’s supporting women, or filmmakers from India who want an international platform… Whatever I can do to help get their stories and work out there, I try to do in my own small way.” Even with her global achievements, she remains humble, saying she doesn’t see herself as “super established” yet. Priyanka ended on a positive note, saying she is proud of the work Purple Pebble Pictures has done and the success it has brought to important stories. Also Read: Priyanka Chopra Jonas Gives a Powerful Shout-out to Janhvi Kapoor’s Message on Womanhood & Equality。
